June 2026 — DeepL Pricing Model Change
DeepL has updated their pricing model:

Existing users are not affected — your current API keys continue to work as before. Existing users do NOT need to pay the new fee. However, DeepL may change or cancel existing plans in the future, so keep an eye on your email for any notifications from them.
New users should be aware that the free character allowance is a one-time trial. Once it runs out, a paid subscription is needed. Check DeepL's current plans for the most up-to-date pricing. If you find it expensive, consider sharing the key to other people as well.
For new users, I recommend:
- Start with the free-tier first. 1 million characters is about 60 hours of viewing. Indeed, one hour episode of Karppi takes 15000 characters. Thanks to smart caching, you can rewatch any content without consuming more characters.
- If you want to try out Paid tier, consider sharing your subsription to other people as well. But only to the one you trust.
