About This Extension​

The Challenge: Spoken Finnish differs drastically from written Finnish, with unique grammar and slang. Traditional study methods don't prepare you for real conversations. This extension bridges that gap by letting you learn through authentic Finnish media.

How It Works: When you watch a video, Finnish subtitles are automatically translated to your chosen language in real-time and displayed below the original text. The extension supports two translation sources:

  • Google Translate — works instantly with no setup. Google Translate has improved a lot and works well for everyday viewing.
  • DeepL — the most accurate, fluent and natural translations, recommended for language learners. Requires a free one-time setup (5–10 minutes).
